Why I Turned Off My Notifications diary example

Thursday

This morning I turned off every notification on my phone except calls from family. I did it after catching myself unlock the screen four times during breakfast. Nothing had happened. I was checking because the possibility of something happening had become hard to resist.

The first few hours felt strangely empty. While waiting for the lift, I reached for my phone and found no red numbers, no headlines, and no messages marked urgent by someone else’s software. I had to stand there for eleven whole floors with my own thoughts. Apparently, I have become bad at that.

By the afternoon, the silence felt less like absence and more like room. I finished a report without breaking the final paragraph into six pieces. I also replied to my friends when I chose to, which made the replies less hurried. No one complained about waiting.

I know this is only day one, and I am suspicious of dramatic digital “detox” stories. The phone is not the villain; I trained myself to respond to it. For the next week, I want to notice which alerts I genuinely miss. The rest can stay quiet.

Por que esta entrada funciona

01

Transformar uma ideia abstrata em uma imagem física

O silêncio se tornar “espaço” dá à atenção do escritor uma forma que o leitor pode imaginar.

02

Qualificar uma opinião forte

“I am suspicious of...” e “The phone is not the villain” mantêm a reflexão equilibrada em vez de sermão.
